 | Always call a physician or other medical provider to determine what the best course of treatment which depends upon the type of wound. Some dog bites require antibiotics or special procedures such as if the bite involes a puncture wound or tearing of the skin. Some jurisdictions have laws that require reporting each dog bite to the authorities. A stray dog runs the risk of carrying rabies. If the dog owner cannot show proof of rabies vaccination, the victim should seek an examination for rabies. Rabies can be fatal to humans if not promptly treated.
